Stubbornness

Gardner and Beatty (1980) mentioned another problem for students who are writing their dissertation proposal is stubbornness. Sometimes we as doctoral students decide a dissertation topic and do not want to change it. Also, we want to solve the problems of the world with our dissertation. Gardner and Beatty (1980) asserted that we should not get so hung up a topic and should not be determined to solve the problems of the world with our dissertation.

The dissertation is not our culmination; however, it is the beginning of our research career.

Here is the Gardner and Beatty's advice for doctoral students: "If your advisor does not like the topic or considers the scope too global, be willing to consider a change or prepare yourself for an uphill battle" (p. 6).

Which choice is the best? The choice is yours.
