SOME COMMON PROBLEMS (Gardner & Beatty, 1980)

There are some common problems for students who are writing their dissertation proposal. A couple decades ago, Gardner and Beatty (1980) classified these problems. As a graduate student, these problems are very familiar to me. I think, these are very familiar to you, too.

According to Gardner and Beatty (1980), the first big problem is laziness. Most of the time, we as graduate students think that we worked hard, and we can wait until tomorrow to start or continue writing. Also, we want to watch baseball games or football games (Whoop) first and then postpone writing. However, writing is a difficult job and it requires self discipline. The best thing to handle laziness is scheduling time for writing. If you have short attention spans, you should determine hourly goals.

Let's start with scheduling time for writing.
